Robert Joseph Quarrick

2/14/1942 – 1/21/2025

Lifelong Bay Area resident Robert Joseph Quarrick, artist, teacher, friend, was born February 14, 1942, in Concord, California. He graduated from Pittsburg Senior High School, class of 1959 and served in the California National Guard.

Bob majored in ceramics and painting at Diablo Valley College where he was awarded the “Norseman Award” in Fine Arts. He received his BA in art from San Francisco State University. He developed and taught an all-ceramics program at Ygnacio Valley High School for 9 years and an all-glass program at College Park High School for 27 years. Bob funded a scholarship program at CPHS for students with notable artistic talent. Bob loved teaching and learning from his students, many who kept in touch over the years.

In 1970, California Congressman Pete Stark commissioned Quarrick to create a large peace symbol featured on a public sign for Security National Bank in Walnut Creek, California.

After his retirement from teaching, Bob continued to work in glass from his studio in the Historic Arsenal arts community in Benicia, California. His kiln formed pieces were one-of-a-kind, eye-catching, and utilitarian, and over his lifetime, Bob was represented by galleries in Georgia, North Carolina, Texas, Florida, Arkansas, California and New York.

Bob loved music and was active in the Bay Area music scene, managing local bands. Bob and three friends traveled across Canada in his VW bus to the Woodstock Music Festival and camped out at the Altamont Music Festival in 1969, the “Woodstock of the West”.

At Bob’s request, no services will be held, but when you think of Bob, remember him with a smile.
